On Saturday we took the water taxi to the World Financial Center and ate at P.J. Clarke's. Then we strolled down Battery Park to catch the ferry to Ellis Island. Conveniently there was a return ferry that took us right back to Liberty State park where MerSea is docked. In the evening we had a terrific meal at the restaurant near the marina.
On Saturday, Lance and I rented bicycles and rode up the west side through the new Hudson River Park. What an AMAZING park! This part of Manhattan has changed SO MUCH since I lived there. There's even a Whole Foods immediately across the street from my old condo!!! Had that been there when I was living in NY, I may never have left!!! :-)
In the evening we took the ferry across the canal to Jersey City and stumbled upon the Light Horse Tavern. Yet another very good dinner. Then we walked back through Jersey City to the marina. This area, too, has changed tremendously. There is a huge park along the water with terrific views of downtown Manhattan, the Statue and NY Harbor. It's also a very dog friendly spot -- Fin would love it here!
MerSea has been reprovisioned and we will be leaving the dock around 10 am in order to get to "Hell Gate" (where the East and Harlem Rivers meet) at slack tide. City Island is our next destination where we will moor at the City Island Yacht Club for the night. Then on to Oyster Bay where Jim will catch a train to Richmond and then on home to the Northern Neck.
For the first time the weather isn't so great. It's cloudy and stormy looking and afternoon thunderstorms are predicted. But it is a lot cooler which is fortunate since we'll be on the hook for the next few nights.
Cheers to everyone back home! We wish you were with us!!!
