What a great day! The weather is super...low humidity, nice breeze and high 70's. This morning we got up early. Lance and I hiked 3 miles to Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt's home. Just as we were approaching the end of the walk (and the worst part with no shoulder and lots of twists) along came Jim in a taxi so we hopped in. Sagamore Hill is a beautiful spot and the tour of the Roosevelt home was well worth it.
Then the guys went in search of the Railroad Museum which turned out to be closed and I went to Planting Fields, an large botanical garden and Gold Coast mansion. For those who like to garden it's worth the detour. I walked the 2-3 miles back to the boat and then rejoined the guys aboard MerSea.
This is Jim's last night so we plan to grill a flank steak aboard the boat. He catches a train tomorrow morning into NYC and then Amtrak down to Richmond. Lance and I continue on our journey. So far we've held true to our itinerary, but tomorrow will be an unplanned detour.
Our plan was to pass through Sag Harbor at some point to see my college roomate, Sue Hov, but when we learned that friends Tom and Tamara are visiting her from Omaha, we decided to tweak our plan in order to catch up with everyone at the same time. So tomorrow we head to Port Jefferson. On Friday, we'll leave the boat at the marina and drive to Southampton for the day. We'll spend the day on Bongo Beach (where Matt, Sue Hov's husband, used to play the bongos on weekend afternoons when we all shared a summer house many moons ago).
On Saturday we'll journey onward in search of Bottlenose who should be arriving in Block Island within the next 24-48 hours. We are excited to see Ted, Coleman and Steve, our friends from Rappahannock River Yacht Club.
