It turned out to be a long day and did not arrive at Dingman's Ferry until after 4 pm. Stephanie had the bright idea of taking the backroads from Gettysburg to Allentown. It made for slow going but was much more interesting. There were plenty of cute towns along the way like New Oxford and Abbottstown. Each characterized by taverns and pubs which you don't see much of in Virginia. Names like Buchmeyer, Stambauch and Sonnewald dotted the signs along the way. The proverbial Amish Buggy was spotted here and there.
As we approached Allentown all of a sudden the engine light went off and MerSea II lost power as we inched our way up a steep hill. After pulling over and taking a break near Rt. 78, we decided to carry on to Dingman's Ferry. It was a Sunday night so no Dodge dealers were open.
Dingman's Ferry is nestled along the Delaware River and was well shaded by hemlock and all kinds of hardwoods. Fin and Stephanie walked down to the river where Fin cooled off.
We grilled steaks on our new "O" grill from LL Bean which worked like a charm. Just as we ate our last bite, lightening started to crackle so we cleaned up, put everything away and dashed into the RV before the rains came pouring down.
