Tahquamenon Falls

As luck would have it, our friends Donelle and Alan (who we visited in Geneva, IL) were doing a tour of the UP in counterclockwise fashion.  Our paths crossed at Tahquamenon Falls which is rated as one of the largest waterfalls (in terms of volume) west of Niagara Falls.

Donelle and Alan pitched their tent on our site then we hit the trails to go explore the falls.  We rented a row boat and the kids, Henry and Kathryn, rowed us out to an island for a close up inspection of the falls.

In the evening we grilled burgers and brats and  toasted marshmallows for traditional s'mores.  Alan had perfected a technique to roast the marshmallows to the optimum temperature in order to melt the chocolate just right.  A real treat!
