This morning we left the peaceful anchorage in Shelter Island just before 7 am to catch a favorable tide through Plum Gut. The entrance to the cove was very tricky and there were lots of shallow spots. Bottlenose, with the shallow draft, led the way acting as a depth sounder for MerSea. But as they say...no good deed goes unpunished...so Bottlenose ended up on a sandbar that appeared out of nowhere and had to wait until the tide rose before departing.
Our destination is the Thimble Islands, however, we are rethinking our options as the granite rocks and lack of holding ground may be worth avoiding.
Today marks a milestone as we begin to head West back towards home. The next three nights will be on the sound and then to NYC to meet crew for the south bound journey.
We are reluctant to return because the weather has been splendid!
