Touring Shelter Island in a GEM car

We rented an electric car to explore the island.  We were assured that the battery was sufficiently charged for our 2 hour rental, however, once the meter went to 70% it quickly dropped to 38%...then 9%...then zero!  The car came to a slow halt about 1/2 mile from our destination.  Sheila and Steve hopped out to push and sure enough the car took off.  Sheila had to hop on the back riding in chariot style.  We got back to the marina just as the vehicle came to a complete stop.

We had a nice tour of the island.  It's a beautiful place with gorgeous houses and gardens everywhere.

We stopped for a gelato in Dering Harbor and enjoyed the afternoon.

Now we've returned to our boats for the evening.  We'll grill tonight from our stash of provisions that have barely been touched.  Dining ashore has been the option of choice lately since there have been lots of restaurant options.  But it is fun to be on the hook for once in a quiet anchorage.
