We popped in for a brief visit with friends Jim and Susan in
Marietta. Lance has known Jim for 20+
years via the Washington Ski Club. Jim owns
Alpine Adventure Trail Tours and is the one who gave me the opportunity to
serve as a hiking guide in Switzerland for three summers.
Jim and Susan treated us in style. We dined out three times in less than 24
hours! We dined at a local French bakery
for lunch and then returned the next morning for breakfast because it was so
good. For dinner we ate at a small
Columbian restaurant that had excellent food and service.
Susan is a Francophile so it was easy to feel at home in
their lovely house. Their home is decorated
with Eiffel Towers, colorful roosters, and lots of Parisian black & white
photos. You can hear faint whispers of French
spoken as you sip coffee in their newly renovated kitchen.
Their home is known in the neighborhood as the “Alamo” and
it is as cute as can be. Their
renovation was completed just recently and the architect did a fabulous job
blending new with old.
Their two Boston Terriers and Bernese Mountain Dog kept Fin on his toes as they chased him around the backyard. Stephanie and Fin accompanied Jim on his morning hike up
Kennesaw Mountain – this turned out to be a necessity given how many calories
were consumed in such a short time.
It was great to catch up with Jim and Susan! We hope they’ll come visit us on the Northern
Neck.
