This afternoon we biked an easy 5 miles into town to the Crystal River Kayak Company where we rented a tandem kayak. It was an quick 10 minute paddle down the canal to the mouth of the Three Sisters Hot Springs. Since it is a long weekend, there were lots of tour boats and snorkelers swimming in search of manatees.

Swimming with manatees in the Crystal River |
We paddled down the narrow passage into the beautiful Three Sisters Spring. The temperature was a balmy 72 degrees which felt extra good given the cold snap that is passing through.
We saw lots of manatees some of which were enormous! They appear to be very docile and have been known to roll over and let nearby snorkelers stroke their bellies.

Along the bike ride back to MerSea we stumbled upon the Crystal River Ale House and dropped in for a cold apple ale and spicy shrimp. It is located at a dive resort and both of us thought it would have been more clever to call the place a "Dive Bar", but actually it was too nice for that. It was funny to see the wet suits hanging along the balconies -- that's a true sign you're at a diving resort!
