Pipestem and Hocking Hills State Park

Thinking we had a short 1  ½ hour journey ahead of us, we dilly dallied along the way.  We drove through Clifton Forge and then explored Covington.  We drove past the Greenbrier and then opted to get off Route 64 and travel down the back roads to Pipestem State Park, West Virginia.  It was a lovely drive but the winding roads made for a much, much longer journey.  We finally arrived in the late afternoon just in time to snag one of the last campsites.

The next day we headed to Ohio to check out Hocking Hills State Park.  While the campgrounds were just so-so, the natural setting was well worth the trip.  We explored Old Man's Cave which was a pleasant surprise -- it was a stunning gorge lined with several waterfalls and unusual rock formations.  An added bonus was that it was 10 degrees cooler which was a welcome respite.
