Mackinac Island

We stumbled upon an ideally situated state park -- the Straits -- for exploring Mackinac Island.  The park is an easy pedal into St. Ignace where the ferries to Mackinac dock.

Since we were planning to be gone the entire day we had to bring Fin with us.  That meant assembling his chariot and pedaling him to the ferry. The ferry was an easy 15 minute ride.
Once on the island, we cycled the 8 mile bike trail around the entire island.  What a great ride!  The weather was splendid, the views spectacular and, to Lance's delight, the trail was flat!

Fin was our ambassador for the day.  We couldn't move more than 30 feet before someone would ask to pet him.  He was a star riding in his chariot -- a sight that is assured to generate lots of giggles.

Stephanie mustered the strength to pedal him up the hill to the Grand Hotel and then on to the Fort.  The effort was rewarded with a relaxing meal at the Jockey Club at the Grand Hotel from which we gazed off to the harbor and lake below.

It was a splendid day and splendid end of our tour of the Upper Peninsula.
