Science Project - Part II

The science project continues at Church Prong Labs.  Thanks to sound advice from my friend Marshall, my veggie garden is coming along nicely.  Marshall shared the recipe for a nutrient cocktail which added more nitrogen and phosphorous to the soil.  The combination has led to a dramatic improvement so far.

My indoor greenhouse
First I started growing seeds using mini greenhouses and stacking them on shelves in an indoor greenhouse in our basement.  I installed grow lights and heating mats on each shelf so the seeds would have the heat and light needed to germinate during the cold spring.

When the seedlings were ready to go outdoors, I placed them under wire hoops covered with a light weight cloth to keep them safe from the elements.  This worked wonders!

My tomato plants are the showcase of the garden now that they are almost 5 feet tall and sprouting over 40 green tomatoes so far.  They have grown so lush that they are taking over the raised bed and pushing the japanese eggplant and poblano peppers out of the neighborhood.

The sugar snap peas are ready to eat and we'll have our first taste for dinner tonight.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the progress is not just "show" but will result in yummy veggies during the rest of the summer.
