Savoie et les Montagnes

After wrapping up a very fun week with our friends aboard the canal boat, we drove East to Savoie to visit Stephanie's aunt and cousins.  It was a pleasant drive stopping in Chablis for un cafe and then lunch in Tournus along the Saone river in Bourg-en-Bresse.

It had been nearly five years since visiting Chambery and St. Thibaud -- a visit very, very long over due!  We love spending time at Brigitte and Franck's house which is an old renovated barn nestled in the mountains.  The left side of the valley is the southern end of the Jura mountains and the right side of the valley is the western edge of the Alps.  Their view is serene as you look out their patio through the old apple tree and beyond the cows grazing in the pasture next door to see the valley continue in the direction of the Massif de la Chartreuse.

Brigitte is a fabulous cook and treated us to all kinds of goodies including some wonderful cheeses from the local area and beyond.  Romain, who now lives in Annecy, and his girlfriend Laura, who lives in Grenoble, joined us for Sunday lunch.  Lucas was busy working at "the 24 hours of Le Mans" race.  As an engineer for the "Oak Racing" team he was pulling (literally) an all nighter!  We were lucky to glimpse him briefly on tv as he was busy working at the race track.

We dined along beautiful Lac du Bourget with Stephanie's Tante Suzanne, Brigitte and Franck.  The snow capped Alps were ever present in the background of our view from the restaurant.  Lac du Bourget is the largest natural lake in France and certainly one of the prettiest.  We had a great visit with family but it was far too short!
