Well bust it was! While we had a lovely drive south through the Chama Valley down to Santa Fe it turned out that our arrival coincided with Indian Market which is a major deal in Santa Fe.
The town was packed and many of the roads and parking areas were closed off. The most we got to see of Santa Fe was REI where we needed to buy tools for repairing flat tires on both our bikes.
The only campsite we could find was at a commercial campground (depressing thought!) 12 miles south of town. This is when not having a tow car really cramps your style!
For weeks Stephanie had been looking forward to a tasty new mexican meal but had to settle for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich instead. Fortunately earlier in the day we had stopped in Espanola and had excellent burritos at El Parasol.
