Day 42 - Mile 7,509: Hot Springs and Natchez Trace

Hot Springs became a lunch time stop.  We walked the pretty Magnolia tree-lined streets and explored the Fordyce spa that is part of the national park.

Having visited  the thermal springs of Aix-les-Bains and Vichy in France, Stephanie is a big hot springs fan so this was one stop she could not pass up.

Hot springs as a medicinal cure was popular in the late 1880s through 1940 but after WWII with the advent of modern medicine the springs no longer drew tourists in search of a cure.

This town must have been the lap of luxury during its heyday.  It has the elegance of a long gone by era.

Given that it was mid-day we decided to press on and drove to Tennessee stopping about 110 miles east of Memphis at Natchez Trace State Park.  On the map it appears that this park is far from the Trace which runs hundreds of miles from Natchez, Miss to Nashville, TN.  But it turns out the Trace has a few off-shoots and this happens to be one.

Once again the state park system impressed us with a prime spot right on the lake.  We were only of only a handful of campers in the entire 10,000+ acre park.
