Clintwood and the Breaks Interstate Park

On Wednesday morning we headed off to Clintwood in Dickenson County. That's where my maternal grandparents lived and we used to visit when I was a very young kid. It had been 35+ years since I had visited. There were a few landmarks that I remember but aside from that the town had grown and expanded more than we were expecting. There is now a Mexican restaurant where Lance and I dined. It was terrific! Then we toured the Ralph Stanley Museum. If that name doesn't ring a bell, you would know him through the film "O Brother Where Art Thou" and the known song "Man of Constant Sorrow."

Afterwards we drove on to the Breaks Interstate Park which is on the border or VA and KY. The park was created to preserve the deepest "break" (or gorge) east of the Mississippi. The gorge drops down over 1,600 feet to the Russell Fork river. The leaves were at their peak so it was stunning.
