Wet Lost Doggy

Strange things happen before storms.  On Friday just before midnight Fin went bananas.  He barked and stared out the bedroom window.  He was so agitated that at first I thought there might be a person or a coyote in the backyard.  Lance turned on the deck light to see what was outside.  He noticed a little creature but could not figure out what it was.  My first instinct was that it was a raccoon or a feral cat in which case I was ready to chase the creature away.  When I looked out the window it was very hard to tell what this little creature was but it resembled a little dog.  I went outside on the deck and as I approached the animal it started to growl.   Despite the growling it clearly was seeking help so I grabbed a bowl of kibble and put it in front of the dog.  It immediately started to eat and then allowed me to pet it.  I then wrapped the animal in a blanket and brought it inside into the guest shower stall where it (and we) would be safe.  This poor little creature was scared and looked like it had been missing for days.

This isn't actually Tess but it sure looks like her!

Fortunately the dog had a collar (a cute pink one) with dog tags and a phone number.  Her name was Tess and she lived in North Carolina.  Our first thought was that she was traveling aboard a boat and fell off.  We telephoned and left a voicemail.  Within a couple of minutes her owner returned our call and was thrilled to know she was found.  As it turned out, Tess and her owners were aboard their grandfather's boat on a creek cruise.  Somehow around 4pm Tess fell overboard but no one was aware at the time.  They went up and down the creek looking for her and then drove up and down the roads in the area searching for her.

Our entire yard has a bulkhead so it would have been impossible for Tess to have climbed ashore at our house.  She must have climbed up our neighbor's yard and then crawled under our fence and went all the way to the back of the house and sat on the flower box until she was spotted by Fin.  It was such a peculiar place for her to end up but she must have known we were inside and ready to help her out.
