We opted to stay two nights in Ketchum in part to connect with a former associate of Lance but he had left town the day before (he must have been reading our blog and got out of town just in time!), but also we had heard so much about the area that we wanted time to explore.
It was a perfect day. After breakfast we hopped on our bikes and rode 3.5 miles into downtown Ketchum which is a very quaint town with wonderful architecture that blends into the landscape. Almost no buildings are higher than the trees so it all seems so natural.
The landscape is surprisingly arid and the climate is a very dry heat. At first the landscape seemed stark and lonely, but then it quickly became captivating.
The town made a major commitment towards building and maintaining their bicycling infrastructure so it is easy to get about town by bike. Fin was a major hit on the bike trail riding in his chariot. One couple asked us to stop so they could take his photo.
After a nice lunch in town we cycled to Sun Valley ski resort just a mile up the valley -- very upscale yet understated. We've love to come back in the winter to ski sometime.
After pedaling back to our campsite we cleaned up the RV (long over due!) and got ready for dinner at the Knob Hill Grill which was delightful.
The friendly couple next to us at our campsite also have a Winnebago View but it is a newer model with all the upgrades just like the ones our friends the Julians and the Wachters recently bought (watch out Typhoon fleet...the View may become the next largest RRYC fleet!). We traded View tips and tricks. The husband is a recently retired Philosophy professor at the state university. He and his wife were in the process of selling their home and moving to Mexico. They plan to live in the View when they come back to the states in the summer. I'd love to hear what Donald Trump has to say about the many, many American retirees who have jumped the boarder and decided to live in Mexico!
