Day 22 and 23 - Mile 4,303: Central Oregon Coast

The next leg of our journey took us south through the central Oregon Coast to the town of Newport.  The scenery along the coast was stunning.

We spent two nights at South Beach state park where there is a long, wide and beautiful barren beach.  We were among only a handful of beach goers.  While Fin played in the surf we watched the kite sailors zoom by in the brisk wind.

The town of Newport hosts an aquarium where we learned all about jellies, seals and puffins.

Oregon is known for having the highest number of breweries per capita of any state so in keeping with the principle of doing as the romans do, we spent the afternoon at the Rogue Brewing Company that produces at least 40 different flavors of microbrews ranging from crustacean IPA to hazelnut amber.

We were in the mood to try the local dungeness crab (about four times as big as a blue crab) but ended up having our fill at the brewery and never made it to dinner!
