Day 30 to 33 - Mile 4,993: Lake Tahoe with Friends

Our RV had developed a peculiar noise so we drove to Truckee the night before to have it inspected.  We were fortunate that the campground turned out to be right next door to the mechanic our friends recommended.  So we left our RV at the Auto Doctor for several days while visiting friends and former Reston neighbors, Frances and Herb, in nearby Lake Tahoe.

We had a great time catching up with Frances and Herb. They are former geologists having spent their careers with the U.S. Geological Survey so they were a wealth of information about the area.  We visited their yacht club -- Tahoe Yacht Club -- and even got to go to their 90th anniversary celebration.

We paddle boarded, kayakdr and went boating on the beautiful lake.  The clarity of the water was simply incredible -- one can see as deep as 74 feet!  We also hiked to "the big rock" and took in the super views and outstanding weather.

And we finally got to see a real bear
... right in front of their house!!!  It was a young bear exploring their neighbor's house
Herb scared him away with his rifle loaded with plastic bullets.

Thanks so much, Frances and Herb, for a wonderful visit -- we already miss you!!!
